The Brecon Beacons National Park and its wonderful mountains are the highest land mass closest to London.
Taking around 2.5 hrs drive, you could breakfast in London, have lunch in a country pub in Wales, and walk or mountain bike it all of in the afternoon in the Brecon Beacons.
Sometimes it can take this long just to cross London.
